Who: Rafe and Holiday
What: Shopping for clothes post lift from Abysus and a few exams later.

When: A week after arriving at Providence
Where: Providence HQ/Holiday's Car/Shopping!

Rafe sat, arms wrapped around himself in his room. All things considered, there wasn't much of his in this room. It was all white and sterile. It was more like a hospital than a young boy's room. Still, this was his assigned living quarters for the next well...until they figured out what to do with him.
He sighed, blue eyes looking over the door that connected his room to his mother's apartment. His mother wasn't there of course, he was still in intensive care where he needed to be. Getting better slowly, but surely. It gave Rafe a lot of time to himself.

The waitress comes back to their table with the ticket in hand and Holiday goes ahead and plunks the money down for their meal (plus tip, of course).

"You ready to go?"

Rafe is on his feet in an instant.

"Ready whenever you are."

He noticed she left more money than was written on the slip. She's a scientist and she's excellent at math, so there must be a good reason.

"Hey, Dr. Holiday? Why did you leave extra money?"

"That's a tip for the waitress," she explains, leading him to the door and waving to their server. "It's a little bonus to them, personally, if we liked how they handled our business."

That and a waiter's pay really sucked and she always felt sorry for them. She remembers those days...

Rafe nodded.

"Oh. Alright. I understand. Like throwing flowers at a singer."

He climbed back into Holiday's. car and buckled his seat belt.

"Something like that, yeah," she told him, starting the car again. "It's like showing appreciation for the work they've done on a personal level."

"Okay. Got it. We don't have that back home so much. Thanks."

Rafe filed that away in his mind for later reference.

As they approached the mall, his face almost pressed up against the glass in anticipation.

"Don't worry about it. I'm sure this place is a lot different from your home, so don't fret about asking me things."

She managed to park the car as close as she could to the mall. "We're here." She hopes he likes the mall... Holiday isn't sure, though. It's always a lot of people.

Rafe is out of the car and the door is closed behind him in a flash. He waits for Holiday, shifting his weight from foot to foot with nervous energy. He really has no idea what he's in for, but it is an excuse to be out and about and to go exploring. He's ready.

"All set, Dr. Holiday."

"I can see that," she laughs, getting out of the car and making her way to the entrance.

"You excited?" As if it weren't obvious.

Rafe keeps up with her and even has to hold himself back so he doesn't get ahead of her since he has no idea where they are going.

He nods.

"Yeah. I haven't been to a mall before. That's new."

"It can be exciting. I'll have to bring you here during the holidays. The decorate everything for them."

They step in to the mall, shops lining the walls and a ton of people walking around. "Alright. Let's see if anything sticks out to you."

"Wow. That must be awesome. I would like that."

And then they are inside...and then he is a deer in headlights.

There are so many people. So many human people. Everything is bright and flashy and new. Everything is human shaped and all the families are human. Well, most. There is an EVO here or there, but they are a minority.

And the wave of emotional imprints he received were intense. He hadn't expected so many.

Rafe recovers quickly, but more or less grabs Holidays hand and walks very close to her.

"I will." he promises.

She's surprised but not taken aback in the least when he grabs her hand. In fact, she likes it as they start to walk through the mall.

"If it gets to be too much for you, just let me know." Being around so many people, she worried if his powers may become too much for him. She wasn't sure how much control he had over them, but that was for later.

For now, she started looking in shop windows... Now what do 10 year old boys like?

"Okay."

He managed to get it out alright.

The wave of different auras and emotions had been a surprise jolt of unexpected proportions. He could handle it if he focused on himself and Holiday. If he did that, the others would fade to white noise in his mind.

Slowly, he was able to drown out the others and soon it was just his own little bubble of himself an Doctor Holiday. He could handle that.

Rafe squeezed her hand as they looked around.

"Nothing frilly, okay? No ruffles or paiseleys."

She squeezed his hand back and nodded.

"Nothing frilly. Got it."

Holiday continued looking at the stores. A lot of these had clothes, but they were more suits and formal wear. They had only just started getting into an area with clothes for teens and kids. Of course, they were here for more than clothes.

Rafe stopped when he saw a dark green shirt with a dinosaur on it in a window. There was also a dark blue one with a shark, as well as a few others that were plain in the background.

"Those are pretty cool."

The manequins were human shaped. It was odd. Min's were always adjustable. While some of her dress forms were humanesque, it was strange seeing his body type presented.

"Hmm?" Holiday looks to where his little eyeballs are glued, smiling at the store.

"Well, let's check it out." She turns and steers them into the store, looking for the shirts he was looking at.

He half pulls her in.

There is also a small pile of dinosaur plushes near the display. Rafe quickly snatches up a rather toothy tyrannosaurus and growls, moving the toy with the sound. He's strangely good at that vocalization.

"Grrrrrrrrr!"

She smiles and laughs. While she's not fond of spoiling him, he still needs as much things as he can get right now.

"You want to take him home with us?"

Big blue eyes widen in wonder.

"Do you mean it? Really?"

It isn't something he needs, really, but he likes it a lot. He doesn't want to take advantage of Holiday's generosity. He will just be a bit more frugal from here on out.

"Yeah! Please!"

Well, it does match the shirt.

"Alright. We'll get him."

He does need new things. Just about... new everything and, like she said, she has money to burn.

"What else?"

Rafe blinks and turns his attention to the clothes. He picks up a few more shirts, a new pair of jeans, a few pairs of socks. He pauses, but then purposefully selects a slightly baggy dark purple hoodie off the rack.

"Okay. Ready."

He still needs shoes, a dress outfit, and bedroom incidentals.

"Is all that in your size?" she asks, looking through his little selection he has going on. Interesting color choice, but she won't knock it.

"Mostly. It will be someday. The socks I know are. They are the same size Dad would bring me from a friend. Same with the jeans. I am going to need shoes, though. Mine feel tight as it is."

He pats the hoodie thoughtfully.

"What do you think?"

She nods at the shoes comment. They'll get those, too.

"Let's see." She walks up to him, grabbing hold of the jacket and putting it in front of him so she can see better. "Yeah, it'll be a little big on you, but it'll fit. And it looks great to boot."
