Musebox: 6 1/2 Verse: Shopping with Holiday

Who: Rafe and Holiday
What: Shopping for clothes post lift from Abysus and a few exams later.

When: A week after arriving at Providence
Where: Providence HQ/Holiday's Car/Shopping!
Warnings: Possible mention of slash and MPREG
Rafe sat, arms wrapped around himself in his room.  All things considered, there wasn't much of his in this room.  It was all white and sterile.  It was more like a hospital than a young boy's room.  Still, this was his assigned living quarters for the next well...until they figured out what to do with him. 
He sighed, blue eyes looking over the door that connected his room to his mother's apartment.  His mother wasn't there of course, he was still in intensive care where he needed to be.  Getting better slowly, but surely.  It gave Rafe a lot of time to himself.

She was almost shocked by that bit and that twinge of guilt that they only JUST got him out came back again, but she couldn't help but feel a lot of good come out of that compliment. That was a long time ago when he said that and for him to still think that way is... nice.

She smiled softly all the same.

"Well I don't know about strong, but I am pretty smart and I do tend to have a stubborn problem."

"Stubborn is good sometimes."

Rafe nodded matter of factly. He had been informed that he himself was stubborn by both I his parents on numerous occasions.

The pizza arrived then and it smelled amazing. The waitress brought them plates, napkins, and silver ware, along with two small jars, one filled with red flakes and another that looked like it was filled with white powder of some kind.

Rafe was quiet and watched Holiday to see what he should do.

... Holiday is more hungry than she thought, it seemed. That pizza looked great.

"Go ahead," she told him, taking a slice for herself, "Dig in." She even bothered to put some Parmesan cheese on hers.

Rafe pulls a slice with a large amount of sausage and pepperoni off the main dish and onto a plate. He in turn takes the second shaker full of red flakes and shakes it on. A few seconds later, he sneezes, and realizes that he better not put too many of those flakes on it.

He carefully blows on on his slice to cool it down before he practically inhales it.

He was hungrier than he thought, too.

She gives a little chuckle at his sneeze (shush it was cute) and watches him... wolf down the pizza. Right. Young boy. Garbage disposals. Best get in some eating while there's still pizza left.

You remember what Rex was like, Holiday. Don't forget those days.

Be prepared for many other days like it. He is finally starting to feel at home, with Holiday at least. With that, his appetite returned. He'd been peckish for the past few days.o
A second piece disappears and he takes a third one, starting to slow down with it.

"So, where do you want to go first after this?"

"I think we should try the mall first," she answers, only just starting on her second piece. Slow down, child, you're going to choke like that.

"It's only a few minutes away from here. And from there we can just work our way around to different places."

He slows down on the third piece and listens attentively.

"Okay. Sounds good to me. I think it'll be fun to work our way around things."

She nods. "Mmhmm. We can find out what kind of things you like. What kinds of things suit you.

"Is there anything in particular you want?"

[wise_lil_wolf]

Rafe pauses to think.

He chews slowly as he ponders before answering.

"I definitely need clothes. The ones aren't very comfortable and I only have this outfit that's really mine. Maybe a swimsuit. The fitness center has a pool. Maybe a blanket, too. Things like that."

She nods to all of the things he lists off.

"Yeah, we'll get all of that. Don't worry about it."

[wise_lil_wolf]

"Okay."

He finishes his last slice in silence, taking in the pizza parlor, the other customers, the lights, the dark carpet, everything. He looks out the window and watches cars whir by.

There are so many people.

The waitress comes back to their table with the ticket in hand and Holiday goes ahead and plunks the money down for their meal (plus tip, of course).

"You ready to go?"

[wise_lil_wolf]

Rafe is on his feet in an instant.

"Ready whenever you are."

He noticed she left more money than was written on the slip. She's a scientist and she's excellent at math, so there must be a good reason.

"Hey, Dr. Holiday? Why did you leave extra money?"

"That's a tip for the waitress," she explains, leading him to the door and waving to their server. "It's a little bonus to them, personally, if we liked how they handled our business."

That and a waiter's pay really sucked and she always felt sorry for them. She remembers those days...

Rafe nodded.

"Oh. Alright. I understand. Like throwing flowers at a singer."

He climbed back into Holiday's. car and buckled his seat belt.

"Something like that, yeah," she told him, starting the car again. "It's like showing appreciation for the work they've done on a personal level."

[wise_lil_wolf]

"Okay. Got it. We don't have that back home so much. Thanks."

Rafe filed that away in his mind for later reference.

As they approached the mall, his face almost pressed up against the glass in anticipation.

"Don't worry about it. I'm sure this place is a lot different from your home, so don't fret about asking me things."

She managed to park the car as close as she could to the mall. "We're here." She hopes he likes the mall... Holiday isn't sure, though. It's always a lot of people.

Rafe is out of the car and the door is closed behind him in a flash. He waits for Holiday, shifting his weight from foot to foot with nervous energy. He really has no idea what he's in for, but it is an excuse to be out and about and to go exploring. He's ready.

"All set, Dr. Holiday."

[doc_holi]

"I can see that," she laughs, getting out of the car and making her way to the entrance.

"You excited?" As if it weren't obvious.

[wise_lil_wolf]

Rafe keeps up with her and even has to hold himself back so he doesn't get ahead of her since he has no idea where they are going.

He nods.

"Yeah. I haven't been to a mall before. That's new."

[doc_holi]

"It can be exciting. I'll have to bring you here during the holidays. The decorate everything for them."

They step in to the mall, shops lining the walls and a ton of people walking around. "Alright. Let's see if anything sticks out to you."

[wise_lil_wolf]

"Wow. That must be awesome. I would like that."

And then they are inside...and then he is a deer in headlights.

There are so many people. So many human people. Everything is bright and flashy and new. Everything is human shaped and all the families are human. Well, most. There is an EVO here or there, but they are a minority.

And the wave of emotional imprints he received were intense. He hadn't expected so many.


Rafe recovers quickly, but more or less grabs Holidays hand and walks very close to her.

"I will." he promises.

She's surprised but not taken aback in the least when he grabs her hand. In fact, she likes it as they start to walk through the mall.

"If it gets to be too much for you, just let me know." Being around so many people, she worried if his powers may become too much for him. She wasn't sure how much control he had over them, but that was for later.

For now, she started looking in shop windows... Now what do 10 year old boys like?
