Musebox: 6 1/2 Verse: Shopping with Holiday

Who: Rafe and Holiday
What: Shopping for clothes post lift from Abysus and a few exams later.

When: A week after arriving at Providence
Where: Providence HQ/Holiday's Car/Shopping!
Warnings: Possible mention of slash and MPREG
Rafe sat, arms wrapped around himself in his room.  All things considered, there wasn't much of his in this room.  It was all white and sterile.  It was more like a hospital than a young boy's room.  Still, this was his assigned living quarters for the next well...until they figured out what to do with him. 
He sighed, blue eyes looking over the door that connected his room to his mother's apartment.  His mother wasn't there of course, he was still in intensive care where he needed to be.  Getting better slowly, but surely.  It gave Rafe a lot of time to himself.

Rafe blinked for a moment, taking in what she said.

"Oh, good."

It was all he could think to say. Inside, he sighed. His mother was going to be alright now. He said to trust Holiday when they first got there and nothing about her emotional wavelengths indicated lies.

"Th-thank you, Dr. Holiday. Mum...Mum always said good things about you."

Rafe liked Holiday.

She was right.

This place was suffocating. Mostly because he didn't know anyone other than Holiday and his mother. He felt boxed in and anxious since he hadn't been able to see his mother in a day or two now. Strict orders of bed rest and all that. Getting some fresh air sounded great.

"I'd...I'd like that, Dr. Holiday."

Then it struck him. He'd never actually been shopping. Oh, he'd bartered and swapped with the EVOs of Abysus, but if movies and television had taught him anything...that wasn't really shopping...and...

"But...I don't have money to shop with. What country are we in? I don't know what currency to use if I had any."


He blurted it out as though it were something terribly important. He apparently could be very awkward, too.

She smiled at the fact that Six said good things about her. It wasn't really so much that as much as it was the fact that he talked about her at all. She just wishes they had gotten to him quicker... A few years quicker, but-

"Don't worry. I'm paying for everything. I have cash to burn as it is. And we're in the United States, by the way."

Holiday wished she could have seen to him sooner, not even knowing the country he was in, but now that Six is much more stable, she can help him out. Yes, she had other duties to Providence and because of recent happenings she would be catching up for weeks.

But he came first.

Rafe swallowed loudly.

"Are..you sure?"

He took in the information with knowledge hungry eyes.

"Okay. It is just that...Providence was always made to sound so far and away that...you think it is more of an idea, you know?"

He shook his head as if to clear is thoughts before nodding.

"I'd like that. I'd like to go shopping. With you."

"I'm sure. I don't mind."

Like she said, she had money to burn. Being in the position she was in certainly had some perks, even if she never had the time to use or enjoy them.

Though she started to frown.

"I'm sorry it sounded like that to you. It's not supposed to, but..." She just sighs, then gets a small smile about her again.

"You want some time to get ready or you want to go now?"

"Sorry, Dr. Holiday. I'm just..."

Scared. Worried. Terrified of certain rooms in here.

"...getting used to things. I'll be fine."


His eyes light up at her invitation to leave.

"I'm ready now."

He slid out of the apartment and shut the door behind him in one swift series of movements.

"Let's go."

He needed fresh air.

He wanted to see what this part of the world was actually like.

If he couldn't be with Mum or Dad, this was the only other person he'd really want to be with.

She smiles at his enthusiasm about it all. She wonders how often he's gotten out of Abysus... if at all.

"Alright, then. Let's go. My car's on the bottom level."

With that, she'll start leading him over to the elevators.

Not really ever much past the mountains of its borders. Everything is new here and Rafe takes in everything with large, inquisitive eyes.

He follows Holiday obediently and presses the down button, but waited for her to go in first.

When they got inside,he tossed his fluffy hair out of his eyes.

"Which down? All the way down to the Garage?"

He asked, gesturing to the massive panel of buttons.

"Yep. All the way to the garage. It's the only place where I know a car won't be destroyed by a tank or a jet on accident."

Which is sadly true. Providence wasn't the safest place for a vehicle like that.

"I bet."

Rafe was quiet then, listening to the floors pass and watched the light patterns flicker as the elevator descended.

The doors binged open after a minute or so and the garage lay spread out before them. Rafe smiled.

"Which one is yours?"

"That one."

She pointed out the small sedan. It wasn't anything flashy, but it wasn't a tin can on wheels either. It was a nice car, all things considered.

"Is there anywhere in particular you want to go first? We could always eat."

He paused again, fidgeting with his fingers a little.

"I don't really know. I haven't ever been shopping for real. Food. Food is good. Both are a good plan, Dr. Holiday."

She smiled to him all the same. This was going to be an experience. Best not to overload him too much.

"We can go eat if your hungry. Then we can go find some stuff for your room. Maybe some new clothes."

She opened the driver's side and got in the car.

Rafe watched her open the door and did the same on his side. He slid into the passenger seat and buckled his seatbelt.

"Okay. That sounds nice."

He shuffled, settling into the seat, his blue eyes watched her hands on the wheel and the gear shift.

They had cars in Abysus, just not that many...and he was always in the back the few times he'd been able to get in them.

While it might have been a bit of a quiet ride, it sure wasn't quiet in Holiday's head. It wasn't so much that she wanted the kid to like her, but that she just completely MISSED ten years of his life. He didn't know her at all and she didn't know him.

That thought really hurt and she really wanted to get to know who he was better.

... For now, though. Food.

Rafe's head was just as full as Holiday's. He wanted her to like him, too. He was picking up some anxiety from her and really hoped he wasn't causing it.

Almost everyone else at Providence ogled him whenever he went to the cafeteria or the fitness center.

He watched the world go by and leaned towards the window.

There were so many other cars...so many people. He really wasn't used to looking out the window and seeing a majority of people looking like himself. It was extremely surreal.

The buildings were all new.

Everything was mechanical.

Plants, if there were any, were clipped and trimmed to be perfect. It was so unlike Abysus.

... "I know it's a lot different here than Abysus, especially more people, but it just takes time to get used to, you know..."

Even though it was still Abysus, it was his home and where he essentially grew up. She could understand that he very could get homesick.

... At least he had Six, but she wondered about who else he would miss from back there. He and Biowulf seemed very close... Maybe she could just ask Six later on.

Rafe looked over at her and nodded.

"Thanks. It is a lot different. Not..bad...just different. Do I make you uncomfortable?"

He blurted the last part.

It just fell out of his mouth.

He looked sheepish afterwards.

"I don't mean to if I do."

She didn't expect that last bit, but she rolled with it anyway.

"No, no. You don't. Why do you ask?"

She didn't mean to give off that kind of vibe.

"Everyone but you keeps staring at me all the time. You don't do that. I don't want you to. That's all. I just want you to like me."

There.

He said it.

... If she wasn't driving, she'd give him a big hug right now. For now, he'll just have to settle for her hand on his arm.

"I do like you. Don't worry about what other people think of you. Their opinions don't matter."

She loved him before he was even born...

He took her hand and squeezed it very hard. Her aura was warm and comforting and it was exactly what he needed. It was calm and loving and supportive. With his father back in Abysus, and hurt, and his mother in the hospital wing at Providence, he needed somebody.

"Thanks."

It is all he can manage to say. It is choked and strained.

She didn't say anything back to him. Just squeezed his hand back until they got wherever they were going.

Holiday knew this entire thing was hard on him, especially with Six out of commission right now. She wanted to use this trip as a way of distraction from his problems.

He suddenly latched onto her arm and hugged it tightly.

Her arm might be a little damp now.

"Thank You. I know you love Mum. I'm glad you do. I was scared we'd be alone, but we're not. I don't know a lot about things here, but I'm not scared with you around. You feel nice. Your feelings."

... Okay. That's it, young man. She is stopping this car. She can't resist not hugging him right now, when he obviously really needs it.

Even she's a bit... shocked at the... loving his mom part...

Holiday still stops on the side of the road, right before wrapping him in a tight hug. Six might not like hugs, but she's not skipping out on him.

He latches onto her, accepting her hug and squeezing her tightly back.
He sniffles into her. Rafe likes hugs.

"I'm sorry."

For making you stop. For accidentally invading your privacy without meaning to. For everything. It isn't fair, all of this. Everything is so complicated that he doesn't know what to think. He definitely needed this shopping trip.

"I didn't mean to look or to feel it. It just happens."
